Organic leather is leather obtained from the hides of cattle raised in certified organic farming and processed without toxic chemicals. Unlike conventional leather, it comes from animals that were kept in species-appropriate conditions and is gently tanned using purely plant-based tanning agents. The result is a natural, durable material with character.

In vegetable tanning, also known as pit tanning, the animal hide is treated exclusively with natural tannins from bark, wood, and fruit. This process is significantly slower than conventional chrome tanning and can take several months. The result is leather that is completely free of heavy metals, remains biodegradable, and develops a beautiful patina over time.

URIA cattle live year-round on pasture in small herds under natural conditions. Painful procedures such as dehorning, separating mother cows and calves, and ear tagging are deliberately avoided. Stress-free slaughter on the pasture ensures that fear and distress are minimized. For us at YOTIMO, this means maximum animal welfare and a life of dignity that goes far beyond any organic certification.

Natural markings such as small scars, mosquito bites, uneven patches, or color variations are traces of the lives our cattle have led. They result from scratching against trees, insect bites, or minor injuries sustained while grazing freely. For us, these are not flaws, but rather signs of authenticity. This makes every YOTIMO product unique.

Conventional leather usually comes from factory farming and is tanned with chromium or other chemicals. Our organic leather comes from URIA cattle raised on pastures in southern Germany and has been processed at the Renz tannery in Tuttlingen for over 100 years using purely vegetable tanning agents. The result is a material that is honest, transparent, and durable.
