Certified organic leather represents a reliable foundation: The leather comes from organically raised cattle and is processed without toxic tanning agents. For us, this recognized standard was an important starting point and, at the same time, the impetus to take an even closer look.
Furthermore, questions that are personally important to us were crucial: Was the animal kept on pasture year-round? Was it allowed to keep its horns? And did it grow up in peace and without pressure? Out of respect for the animal and the environment, we sought a solution that makes precisely these points visible. A conscious choice for everyone who values ethics as much as timeless design, quality, and honest craftsmanship.
URIA, based in Balingen, pursues a consistently holistic approach to cattle farming, focusing on animal welfare, regionality, and transparency. The cattle are raised in manageable herds and spend a large part of their lives outdoors. Grazing, fresh air, and ample space allow the animals to exhibit natural behaviors that clearly distinguish them from industrial factory farming.
A central tenet of URIA's philosophy is the respectful treatment of each individual animal. Stress is consciously avoided, both in daily care and in all subsequent steps. The animals are raised without performance pressure, with time and patience, which benefits not only their well-being but also the quality of the hides. Natural living conditions result in a stable, robust hide structure that is particularly valuable for leather processing.
Even after this change, URIA remains committed to its regional and responsible approach. Short distances, transparent processes, and collaboration with local partners ensure that transport is minimized and processes remain traceable. Every step is designed to respect the natural cycle and use resources consciously.
YOTIMO sources its leather specifically from URIA because they don't just talk about sustainability and ethics, they live these values every day. For us, this means leather with origin, character, and history. A material that isn't produced anonymously, but whose origin is known. The man behind Uria
Hermann Mayer and his family run the Uria Farm in Balingen with an approach that is rare these days. Manageable herds, year-round grazing, animals that are allowed to keep their horns and grow up in peace. No pressure to perform, but rather time, patience, and genuine respect for the animals. We chose this farm because every step is transparent and animal welfare is not just a label, but a lived conviction. This is precisely how our organic leather is created: with provenance, character, and a story you know.
Animals with dignity and time
These cattle are allowed to be animals. They grow up without pressure, at their own pace, with horns and in a familiar herd. Mother and calf are never separated. There is no dairy farming; the animals live solely for their lives on the pasture. This very tranquility is later reflected in the leather: A life without stress results in a strong, characterful hide with a natural grain and fine texture. What the animal experiences with dignity remains palpable in the material. That's why each piece is unique, honest, and distinctive.
